Ekote should be stored in unopened original packaging in a dry place protected from frost, heat and direct sunlight. Once opened the packaging should be resealed tightly and kept in a dry place.

Ekote Inside® refers to coated, controlled release mineral fertilisers manufactured under the patented process of Ekompany and by Ekompany and which are used as an ingredient in other end-products. Ekote Inside® is a registered trademark of Ekompany.
Ekote is an advanced controlled release mineral fertiliser for the professional horticulture, agriculture and plantation markets as well as for the professional nutrition of sport fields, golf courses and public greens. It is a granular, base fertiliser with degradable polymer coating, suitable for application in the field, to be mixed in substrate or for spreading on turf.
A controlled release fertiliser (CRF) is a granulated fertiliser which releases nutrients gradually into the soil in a controlled way. Since conventional fertilisers are soluble in water, the nutrients can disperse quickly after application (through leaching or volatilisation) and the plants will not be able to uptake them in an optimal way. The CRF granules have an insoluble physical coating that acts as a semi-permeable membrane allowing nutrients to flow outward for months. The key is that with CRF the factors dominating the rate, pattern and duration of the release are well known, controllable and predictable.
In order to gain the most benefit from the efficiency of Ekote Controlled Release fertilisers, we recommend that it is used as a base fertiliser at the start of the growing season. In situations where later in the season the need for additional nutrition is detected, also other types of fertilisers can be applied.
The exact dosage is dependent on the local growing conditions, crop and local fertilising methods, so we recommend you to contact your dealer/advisor or the Ekompany country representative for precise advice. Trial results show that, compared to conventional fertilising, same or even better results can be achieved with 15-50% less fertiliser.
The fertilisation method is dependent on the crop. In horticulture and agriculture we recommend row application to achieve the most efficiency. In agriculture broadcasting is also appropriate. In container nurseries and pot plants Ekote should be mixed in substrate or applied by dibbling. For grass fertilisation we recommend rotary or drop spreading. By all means do not use application machinery that can grind particles or damage the fertiliser coating.
The rule of thumb is that a single application with Ekote is enough for the whole growing season. Depending on the product design Ekote’s nutrients are released over a period of 2 to 18 months. The product longevity is influenced solely by the soil temperature during the release period and not by any other aspects such as rain, irrigation, soil composition, soil pH-value and bacterial life. The higher the temperature, the faster the nutrients release, matching the uptake of the crops.
Safety and environment
Because of its protective coating Ekote is safe for root systems and grass blades when used according the right recommendation and dosage. Ekote has been tested in more than 200 field trials by independent institutes internationally and has always scored negative on phytotoxicity. Unlike other fertilisers on the market – Ekote has no chemical interaction with soil's microorganisms and bacteria and is therefore also safe to soil life.
Yes, Ekote is eco-friendly in many ways. To start, it is produced according an unique patented process which is clean, safe, automated and energy-efficient. Next to that Ekote’s polymer coating is based on organic oils. At the end of the product longevity the coating will start degrading in a natural way. During application practically no leaching or volatilisation of minerals occurs because they are released in a way that matches plant’s nutrient requirements. Ekote has no impact on soil's microorganisms and is therefore also eco-friendly to soil life. Finally, because of its precision and efficiency, less volume is needed to achieve the same results compared to conventional fertilisers. This reduces the logistic footprint throughout the entire value chain.
Using Ekote has various positive aspects to soil quality. Because of the controlled release technology and polymer coating, leaching and volatilisation of minerals can be practically avoided while achieving excellent yield results. The risc of over-fertilisation is reduced. Ekote uses no chemical inhibition and is therefore neutral to soil life. In many of Ekote’s formulas essential micronutrients such as Ca, Mg, Fe, B are added which help balance the soil composition. Last but not least, a single application of Ekote is sufficient for the whole growing period of up to 18 months. This reduces the need of multiple cultivation by farm machinery which, on its turn, leads to less soil compaction and be beneficial to soil quality.
None of the Ekote products fall under the classification of dangerous substances so they do not require special registration procedure. This means that the costs of transportation, handling and storage are standard, which can be of great advantage in trading and application.
